CELEBRATED SAINT TRIFUN DAY IN THE CENTER FOR VITICULTURE AND WINEMAKING

On the occasion of Saint Trifun Day, celebrated by the Center for viticulture and winemaking, the authorities of Palilula Municipality visited this distinguished institution. Like the tradition has been for years, in the presence of priests and many guests the cutting of grape vine tree was completed, cutting of Saint day cake but also the discussion about the programme of the Center took place. The president of Assembly, Milan Djurdjevic, general secretary Vesna Jovanovic-Jankovic, head of administration Boban Ilic, municipal councilors Milos Stojkovic and Boban Mikic visited the wine cellar and lab of the Center and then in the vineyard of the Centre were also present when grape vine tree was being traditionally cut.

`We expect that outturns of winemaking in our Region this year will be better` – emphasized Milos Ristic, director of the Center for viticulture and winemaking. `During the last years, the whole Nis vineyards have been in danger with photoplasma – provoker of the disease of so called golden yellow and red colour of grape vine tree leaves - Flavescence dorée. Infected grape vine parts are taken away and destroyed and new seedlings are put, which disturb us in the process of increasing production`.

At the territory of Palilula Municipality there are 15 villages that refer to narrow urban part. Regarding the type of their geographic position, type of soil, climate factors and tradition, these villages have good basis for organized and highly produced agricultural production. Rape vine tree growing has long tradition in these areas. About 355 hectares of  arable soil are under vine tree in Palilula. T`his cooperation with the Center is very important`, emphasized the representatives of  Municipal authorities. On this occasion this Center was visited also by delegation of `High agricultural food school of professional studies` headed with PhD Ljubisa Jovanovic, director of this educational institution.
